For a good, clean swim
Maintaining 1-4 parts-per-million of Free Chlorine is critical to keeping water clean and suitable for swimming. These daily-use, quick dissolving granules work fast to keep your water clean from both harmful bacteria and unsightly alga. Granules can be added through skimmer or directly to water for safe, clean fun at the pool.
Always apply chemicals per label directions. Circulating pool water when applying chemicals helps disperse chemicals throughout the pool for maximum coverage.
Maintaining Proper Chlorine
Keeping chlorine at proper levels helps your water stay clear and clean, controls algae growth, and protects your swimmers from harmful bacteria.
Use Clorox Pool&Spa My Pool Care Assistant Multi-Use Smart Strip to test your chlorine levels weekly, and ensure your water’s pH levels are balanced.
– Free Chlorine: 1 to 4 ppm*.
– Total Chlorine: 1 to 4 ppm.
– pH: 7.2 to 7.6.
On warmer days, you may want to test water more frequently, and adjust how much chlorine you add to the pool to ensure your levels are between 1 and 4 ppm.
Shocking helps you maintain chlorine levels by destroying bacteria and swimmer contaminants that will increase demand for chlorine in your pool, and making it harder for your pool to maintain free chlorine of 1 to 4 parts-per-million, and causing your water to get cloudy or smelly.
Shock weekly using 1 pound of XtraBlue Chlorinating Granules per 10,000 gallons of water to help free up more available chlorine in your pool. XtraBlue Granules dissolve quickly and can be added directly to your skimmer to keep water clean, clear, and free of visible algae.
Chlorine quickly depletes when exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays, and needs to be protected from the sun in order to last longer. Cyanuric acid, also known as chlorine stabilizer, will stabilize chlorine under the sunlight’s rays, ensuring longer lasting sanitization.
XtraBlue Chlorinating Granules contain stabilizer, to ensure long lasting sanitization, reducing your need to add more chlorine than necessary. Test and maintain a stabilizer level of at least 30 parts-per-million all summer.
High pH or low chlorine levels are among the most common reasons pool water may cloud.
Step 1: Test water to determine if these parameters are in range and adjust as needed.
Step 2: Start seeing results in 24 hours.
Chemically cleaning the filter at pool opening and mid-season helps improve filtration and restore water clarity.
Step 1: Backwash filter or chemically clean filter media.
Step 2: Empty any debris in the skimmer basket that may be clogging water flow.
Debris and contaminants enter pool water by wind, heavy use and rain. It may cloud the water or strain the pool’s system.
Step 1: Empty skimmer basket.
Step 2: Skim or vacuum debris from water.
Step 3: Apply a clarifier or a flocculant to improve filtration.
Step 4: Shock water to remove swimmer contaminants.
